The money is in the Follow Up - That’s why you don’t have any

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Over the past few months I have been doing a research project.
You see my business is not just selling leads. I am an avid Internet marketer.I experiment with all forms of online advertising and over the years I have been tracking my results much more closely than when I first go started 8 years ago.

I have sold thousands of leads and talked with hundreds of customers and as you can imagine the feedback has been varied. This made me question why some people would praise the leads as the best they have ever had to others that say they are the worst.

The leads are always generated with the same dynamics so when analyzing any data you must account for the variables. During my research I discounted the quality of the leads as being a variable since they are generated the same way day in and day out. Of course there are custom lead generation campaigns that we use but I did not take these into account for this research.

So what are the variables if the leads are considered equal.

The person working the leads and the methods that they use to work them.Obviously skill level does become a factor and I have no way to gauge that at least with this research project. My intent was only to see the methods used when a prospect finally reached a lead capture page and actually filled out the from.

Now if you have been in this business for any length of time a lead that has reached your page and requests more information is GOLD!

So I set out to find 100 Networkers, 25 each in 4 different companies. I will not name the companies because I am not trying to pick on any company in particular and since the results stayed relatively the same across all of the companies that I tested.

Test Results:
100 Survey Forms filled out

Return Phone Calls within 24 hrs - 20%
Follow up Phone Call within 1st week - 10%
2nd Follow Up Phone Call after 1st week - None
Email Autoresponder Campaign - 40%

These are extremely sad results. I could not believe these figures when I finally totaled all of the numbers. After seeing these results I no longer wonder why most network marketers fail. It is simple:

They fail to follow up!!!

Since being in business online and I will refer primarily to BuyLeadsforLess.com I have had an auotresponder campaign in place. It is the single best way to stay in touch with my customers. I have had many, many new customers tell me that they have been receiving my emails for awhile and after many months they decided to give me a call. Would they have called if they were not actively receiving emails from me? Absolutely not! But is that enough?

Sorry but no it isn’t. I follow up with every customer. If they call me I return the call within 24 hours. If they email me again I answer the email within 24 hours. I also run a web design business and I have several list building techniques in place. When I get someone to a page and they are requesting more information I FOLLOW UP! Does this mean 1 or 2 phone calls. No what it means is I follow up until I no longer consider them a lead.

I had a long time customer tell me just yesterday that he loves our leads and he must since he buys several packages per month and has for years. He said the trick is the follow up. He continues to contact the lead until they are no longer a lead for his business.

The old saying ” The money is in the follow up” is absolutely TRUE!

I personally use 2 autoresponders to help me with my follow up. I have my first autoresponder which allows me to import Opt-in leads and then I have a super clean autoresponder that sends directly from my computer through my local ISP. I am in complete control and I get extremely good delivery.

The first autoresponder is here:

My local autoresponder software is here:

If you have questions about how to use an autoresponder or would like to get started give me a call 818-206-5286
You can bet that I will follow up with you.
